I’ve finished the book and I’m cleaning up… in many ways. The piles of research notes, papers, files and books can be sorted and some order restored to my office. Clearing the decks for the next novel! I’m also having an early spring clean now the tillers, painters, builders and have departed. I just hope the garden will recover from being driven over, trampled and smothered by planks, scaffolding and bricks. Boris and his mate have built a long pergola ‘tunnel’ we’ve planted with wisteria, plus we have a little gazebo where it is lovely to sit and look at the roses growing in the winter sun while we have morning tea. We’ve done quite a bit of titivating round the place as my daughter and gorgeous granddaughter are coming for a visit for a week.
We’ve also got a magazine coming to take pictures of the three generations of Morrisseys! The following week we’re having our Xmas in July a week late but friends so look forward to coming to stay for the weekend and bring their fake kitsch decorated Christmas tree and all the trimmings. We make gluwein and sit by the roaring log fire, cook turkey and this year also stuffed roast pork cooked in the outdoor pizza oven – using some tips from Master Chef. (Gosh I’m missing that show.) In September I’m setting off for a month or so to research the next novel then I gear about in October for media interviews and go on a national book tour for the new book all through November. But how I love going back to Broome and Darwin as well as the capital cities. And this year a great gathering in Julia Creek too! So as you can imagine life is rather hectic so I’ve decided to take a break from my column for awhile. And I hope to “talk” to you again soon.
